The Upper East Side

Finding balance on the Don Valley Trail

I began this blog to document all of my adventures, thinking of Thailand and Egypt and Ecuador.  But it just recently dawned on me that I have great adventures at home as well. For my last birthday, I was given a book of country walks around Toronto. Yesterday, I went on my very first one.

Taking the subway up to Sheppard and Leslie – yes, I actually used the Sheppard line, me and five other people. Crossing the street, we descended onto the ‘East Don River’ trail.

For six kilometres we walked along the river, taking in the beauty of nature so close to the city. The sound of the water, the wind in the trees, the bunnies hopping along the trail with us…it was all so relaxing – and balancing, if that makes sense.

You don’t have to drive for hours on the 401 to find solace outside the city. You can find it inside, if you bother to look. Such a gem I found yesterday, just by looking in a book.
